Visit to Ica

Pday found us visiting with the Hess Family.  "Elder" Hess returned as a tourist with his wife and parents.  It was great to catch up on all the news from home and hear of their visits with the people he taught and worked with here.

Conferencia de Parejas

The battle for Peru's Independence was fought in Ayacucho.  Our guide met us at the bus door with his group of singers and dancers.

Ayacucho

The little shrines on the roof are put on all the houses to bless them.

The bull represents Spain and the Condor Peru

Cheqo Wasi

Tunnels go from here thousands of miles to Machu Pichu

The white stuff has bugs that when scraped off and you squeeze them, bleed a dark red burgundy that is used in costly cosmetics.

Hauanta

The Plaza has the next prettiest flower garden in Peru.
We are envious of their washing machine.

Journey's End - we were thankful for good drivers on these windy roads

Visita

We stopped to visit the Whitneys on our way to Lima to the dentist.  Lunahuana is a resort area nearby Canete where they work.

Funeral procession

The casket is carried for miles past places important to the deceased and they stop and bow the casket in front of each place.

River rafting anyone?

We thought we were in Jackson Hole.

Decisiones

What to have for lunch...shrimp, trout, rabbit or guinea pig?

The grandkids keep asking if we've tried cuy yet - would you?

Last Lunch

Last lunch for Elder Mendoza who returns home Sunday.  The missionarios really enjoyed the Peruvian version of Grandma Jones' mashed potatoes and steak gravy.
